Sound sequence memorization test - random melody![]() Description of the sound sequence - melody memory test This test allows you to evaluate echoic as well as short-term memory for sounds, by presenting subjects with a short sound sequence consisting of notes sampled from seven tones, followed by the subject's ability to reproduce the sounds using an interactive sound synthesizer. The test can be useful for both adults and children to understand how their short-term memory works in conjunction with the brain area responsible for sound perception, usually the occipital lobes, plus ventral and dorsal streams. Depending on the degree of development of this brain area, we can determine how much it contributes to the retention of sounds in short-term memory. Instructions for the sound sequence - melody memory test Choose the appropriate test option with the number of sound signals slightly exceeding your presumed short-term sound memory abilities. After moving to the test start page, you will see an interface in front of you; in the upper part you will need to enter the memorized notes, in the lower part - your "draft", an interactive sound synthesizer with which you can reconstruct the memorized sounds from memory. Click the "Start listening" button, wait for the sound signals to finish playing, and after a short pause, by pressing the "+ - plus" buttons, add to the empty test cells the notes that should be there, following the order of the notes played for memorization. You can click on the synthesizer keyboard to reconstruct the melody from memory; when clicked, you will hear a specific note. Next to each note there is a "plus" button; by clicking on it you can place the note in an available cell. You can also move notes between cells. When ready, click the "Done" button, and you will proceed to the results of your short-term sound memory test.
