Uchida-Kraepelin Test: Assess Your Work Capacity and Attention

Image for online Uchida-Kraepelin test

This test is a standardized introductory version of the Uchida-Kraepelin test, which has gained popularity in Japan and other countries as one of the primary tests for professional selection of job applicants. The test measures subjects' attention abilities, mental performance, and fatigue based on the number of solved examples within a time limit. The test consists of a table with 15 rows of numbers (in our version - 60 numbers and accordingly 59 examples of adding left and right numbers) with 1 minute allocated for each row in the standard version, and two tables with 15 rows of numbers in the advanced version (with a 15-minute break between tables). The subject's task is to add the first digit to the second, the second to the third, and so on, entering the result in the input fields between the numbers, doing this as quickly as possible. Our Uchida-Kraepelin test is an introductory version and does not claim accuracy since it cannot be conducted under controlled and standardized conditions. It is free and adapted for most devices - computers and smartphones. For more accurate results, we recommend taking the professional version of the test.

What is the Uchida-Kraepelin Test?

The Uchida-Kraepelin test is a professional tool for assessing:
Information processing speed
Attention span
Work capacity under load
Fatigue level

Developed by Japanese psychologist Yoji Uchida based on Emil Kraepelin's methodology, this test has been used for decades in:
Professional selection (Toyota, Hitachi and other corporations)
Clinical diagnostics
Sports psychology

How does our online test work?

We offer two scientifically validated versions:

1. Basic version (15 minutes)

15 rows of numbers
1 minute per row
Automatic transition between rows
Instant results with analysis:
  • ✧ Average processing speed
    ✧ Number of errors
    ✧ Fatigue index

2. Advanced version (2 sessions of 15 minutes)

Two sessions of 15 rows each
15-minute break between sessions
Comparative analysis:

  • ✧ How performance changed
✧ "Second wind" or fatigue effect
    ✧ Stress resistance indicator

  • Why should you take this test?

🔹 Unique algorithm — unlike simplified online tests, we follow the original methodology with:

    • Fixed time per row (exactly 1 minute)
      Control of sequential sums (a+b ≠ b+c)
      Automatic transition between rows

🔹 Professional interpretation — your results are compared with:

✧ Norms for different age groups
    ✧ Office workers' indicators
    ✧ Professional operators' data

🔹 Practical benefits — discover:

✧ Your most productive time of day
✧ How quickly mental fatigue sets in
✧ Which tasks are easiest for you

How does testing work?

  • Choose version (basic/advanced)
Add pairs of numbers, entering the last digit of the sum (for example, when adding 7 and 6 to get 13, you enter 3 in the input field)
Work at the set pace (1 row = 1 minute)
Receive detailed report immediately after completion
  • 💡 Tip: For accurate results, take the test in the morning, in a quiet environment, without distractions.

    Scientific basis

Our test is adapted from materials:

    • ✧ Uchida & Koyasu (2015) Journal of Japanese Psychological Research
✧ Kawai et al. (2020) Industrial Health
      ✧ Original Uchida manual (1927)

Try it now — it's free and takes just 15 minutes (for the standard version)!

P.S. All data is anonymous. For HR specialists, a professional reporting module will be available soon.

Important to know:

1. Digital test results are typically 10-15% higher than paper versions

2. For professional diagnostics (e.g., when applying for jobs), clarify which test version will be used

3. If preparing for a paper test — practice with pen and timer

Please note: If you are taking the advanced version of the Uchida-Kraepelin test, to get the results after taking the first series of the test, you need to wait 15 minutes and take the second series of the test, only then will you get to the test results. If the advanced version is not suitable for you due to the large amount of time required to complete it, choose the regular version of the test with one table.
