Reaction test: checking the speed of reaction to a sound stimulus

Picture for the sound reaction test

In this reaction test, unlike other similar tests, you can evaluate your response speed to auditory stimuli. Notably, we react faster to sound than to visual stimuli, and even faster to tactile stimuli. However, this difference might not be as noticeable in reaction tests because the response (action following a stimulus) typically takes similar time for most stimuli types. Nevertheless, by completing multiple reaction tests and analyzing the results, you may determine how much faster you react to sound compared to visual cues.

Choose the appropriate auditory reaction test based on the number of attempts that will be used to calculate average reaction time:

Start auditory reaction test - 10 attempts
Start auditory reaction test - 20 attempts

Reaction Time Test: Auditory Stimulus Response

🔍 Test Description

This test measures your reaction time to an auditory cue.

  1. First two tones (low and medium pitch) — warning signals.
  2. Third tone (high pitch) — target. Tap the screen immediately after hearing it!
  3. Random delay (1–3 seconds) between the 2nd and 3rd tone.

🎯 How to Take the Test?

  1. Prepare:
    • Ensure sound is enabled.
    • Keep your finger/cursor ready to tap.
  2. Click "Start" — the sequence will begin.
  3. Wait for the high-pitched tone and tap as fast as possible.
  4. Result will be displayed in milliseconds (ms).

⚠️ Important! If you tap before the third tone, it will count as an error.

📊 Results Interpretation

Reaction Time (ms) Level
< 150 🔥 Excellent (pro-level)
150–250 👍 Good (average)
250–350 🤔 Fair (needs practice)
> 350 🐢 Slow (retry recommended)

The interpretation of the results may be inaccurate due to the insufficient number of studies conducted on the reaction speed to this type of stimulus (audio signal).
